    SMMUSD's early learning pathway program is designed to provide exceptional early childhood education for all district students by establishing neighborhood preschools, known as Seaside Preschool and Transitional Kindergarten (TK) programs known as Bridges TK.

    Seaside Preschool Programs

    Our Seaside Preschool Programs are offered at Edison Language Academy, Franklin Elementary School, Grant Elementary School, McKinley Elementary School and Webster Elementary School in Malibu. We will transition Will Rogers into a Seaside in the coming year as well. These preschool programs are designed to support the vertical alignment of a PK-TK-K pathway at our local elementary schools. With the exception of Edison (which must ensure language parity for a dual-language immersion), all of the Seaside programs serve students in the neighborhoods in which they are placed. At this time Franklin serves both Franklin and Roosevelt families and McKinley serves both McKinley and Roosevelt families. Webster Seaside supports all Malibu residents.

    Seaside programs are Reggio-inspired, STEAM enhanced, and standards-aligned. Teachers work with students on Inquiry-based experiences and developmentally appropriate play. We work with our colleagues in the elementary schools to ensure students are well known when they leave our preschool program and enter the main elementary school in TK or Kindergarten.

    Bridges Transitional Kindergarten (TK)

    SMMUSD offers TK programs at Edison Language Academy, Franklin Elementary School, Grant Elementary School, McKinley Elementary School and Roosevelt Elementary School in Santa Monica and Webster Elementary School in Malibu. Due to enrollment restrictions we do not have TK programs at all sites. If your SMMUSD home school doesn’t have a TK, you will be able to enroll in TK at one of these sites, then return to your neighborhood school for Kindergarten through 5th grade. To begin the enrollment process, families will start at their home school and will later be directed to their designated TK site.  To find your neighborhood school, see school locater here:

    Providing an early learning pathway at a child’s school of residence fosters strong relationships among families, community and educators, limits transitions from school to school for the youngest students, and ensures kindergarten readiness.
