Administrator Induction Program Overview
SMMUSD Administrator Induction Program is proud to offer a local process through which newly hired administrators within the district possessing a California Preliminary Administrative Services credential or Certificate of Eligibility (CE) can clear their credential as required by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). The program aims to support administrators (beginning within the first 120 days of starting their administrative position) through a two-year, job-embedded, individualized system of coaching and support. The program is designed to support candidate growth in effective leadership of diverse, equity-focused, and inclusive school systems.
Our goal is to develop reflective leaders who promote the success of all students by*:
- Facilitating the development and implementation of a shared vision of learning and growth of all students.
- Shaping a collaborative culture of teaching and learning informed by professional standards and focused on student and professional growth.
- Managing the organization to cultivate a safe and productive learning and working environment.
- Facilitating safe, fair, and respectful environments that meet the intellectual, linguistic, cultural, social-emotional, and physical needs of each learner.
- Collaborating with families and other stakeholders to address diverse student and community interests and mobilize community resources.
- Making decisions, modeling, and behaving in ways that demonstrate professionalism, ethics, integrity, justice, and equity and hold staff to the same standards
- Influencing political, social, economic, legal and cultural contexts affecting education to improve education policies and practices.

SMMUSD Induction Program Design:
Once enrolled into the program, candidates are supported based on the context of their leadership role throughout their two-year journey. We provide support through:
Individualized Coaching: Participating candidates are matched with a highly effective administrator who serves as their coach for two years.
Professional Learning: Tied to the California Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (CPSELs) and connected to their Individual Induction Plan (IIP)
Formative Assessment-based Growth: Participating candidates engage in continuous cycles of improvement (Plan-Do-Study-Act) to determine effective practices for meeting the diverse needs of their student population.
Program admittance is determined during the employee’s intake meeting with the district credentials analyst. The credentials analyst will confirm the following:
- Candidate holds a Certificate of Eligibility or Preliminary Administrative Services credential
- Candidate is a district certificated employee in an administrative role
Program Requirements (coursework and completion):
- Participate in a two-year learning journey within the program.
- Attend an Administrative Induction Orientation meeting
- Attend required program delivery meetings- monthly Milestone Meetings
- Meet with an assigned induction coach for a minimum of 40 hours per year
- Design and implement an Individual Improvement Plan (IIP)
- Complete 20 hours of professional learning related to your IIP each program year
- Self-Assess three times annually on your growth in designated CPSELs (Initial/Mid/End of year)
- Plan and execute 2-4 inquiry projects during the two-year program to demonstrate growth along the Professional Leadership continuum.
- Submit "Evidence of Leadership Growth and Practice" in the form of program tools, artifacts and observations via online digital portfolio
- Prepare and present "Evidence of Leadership Growth and Practice" in front of an exit interview panel composed of various stakeholders

*Once a candidate has completed 2 years of successful experience in a full-time administrative position and has fulfilled all program requirements, the district will make a recommendation for the candidate to receive a Clear Administrative Service credential to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).
