Suggested Prerequisite: Chinese 2 with a grade of "C" or better or teacher approval Chinese 3 is medium level course in Chinese. Students continue to develop abilities to use planned language - paragraphs and strings of paragraphs- to address concrete and factual topics related to the immediate and external environment such as extracurricular, renting & travel. Chinese is mostly used in entire class. Chinese culture continues to be an integral part of the curriculum. The course content and structure will be aligned with the state's World Language Content Standards for California Public Schools and American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). Students who successfully complete this course will develop their Chinese proficiencies at the Novice High to the Intermediate Low range of the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines.

I can communicate and exchange information about familiar topics using phrases and simple sentences, sometimes supported by memorized language. I can usually handle short social interactions in everyday situations by asking and answering simple questions.

Presentational Speaking, Novice High:
I can present basic information on familiar topics using language I have practiced using phrases and simple sentences.

I can present information on most familiar topics using a series of simple sentences.
Presentational Writing, Novice High:
I can write short messages and notes on familiar topics related to everyday life.
