Permit Information & Forms for 2022-23 School Year
All permit and support documents must be submitted electronically. Paper submissions are not available and will not be accepted.
The Board of Education desires to provide enrollment options that meet the diverse needs and interests of district students. Upon request, the Superintendent or designee may allow students who live within the district to transfer to another school; may accept students from other districts; and may allow students to transfer out of the district.
Intradistrict Permit/Open Enrollment
Students who reside within the boundaries of SMMUSD may apply to attend a school other than their school of residence on an intradistrict permit. This information applies to students who live in Santa Monica or Malibu who seek to enroll in a different SMMUSD school.
The deadline to apply for an intradistrict permit for fall 2022 has expired.
Interdistrict Permit/Open Enrollment
The deadline to apply for an interdistrict permit for fall 2022 is June 30, 2022. Any applications received after this date will be considered late and will be placed on a late list.
Verification of Continuing Enrollment
Students who reside outside the boundaries of SMMUSD who are currently enrolled in an SMMUSD school on an interdistrict permit must submit a Verification of Continuing Enrollment. This information applies to students currently enrolled in SMMUSD on an interdistrict permit.

Deadline for submittal of Verification of Continuing Enrollment is June 1, 2022.
Outgoing Permit Information
Students who reside within the boundaries of SMMUSD may apply to attend a school outside SMMUSD on an outgoing interdistrict permit. This information applies to students who live in Santa Monica or Malibu who seek to enroll in a school outside the district.
