Coronavirus/COVID-19 Information

    Symptoms

    Symptoms consistent with COVID19 (Spanish)
    Symptoms: Fever ≥ 100.4°F, chills, new uncontrolled cough (for children with chronic allergic/ asthmatic cough, a change in baseline cough), shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, diarrhea/vomiting.            

    Additional Adult Symptoms: abdominal pain, sore throat,runny nose/stuffy nose, muscle/body aches, new onset of severe headache, new loss of taste or smell.

    Multi-System Inflammatory Syndrome is a rare, but serious childhood complication of COVID-19.
    Common symptoms include those listed above as well as confusion or being overly tired.

    If you or your child are experiencing these symptoms follow these steps: 

    • Stay home or go home immediately
    • Call your Healthcare Provider and get tested
    • Report to school nurse if you (staff) or your child (student) have symptoms consistent with COVID19.

    Testing 

    Testing for COVID-19

    • COVID19 Test should be a PCR test

    Symptomatic, Positive PCR Test, or Exposed

    Home Isolation (Spanish): Staff or students with symptoms consistent with COVID19 must follow the LA Dept. Public Health Home Isolation Orders. Regardless of positive or negative COVID-19 test result, staff and students may ONLY return in person to school when all criteria have been met:

    Positive Test result or No Test Result

    • 10 days have passed since the onset of symptoms
    • Fever-free for 24hrs WITHOUT fever reducing medication (Tylenol or Advil)
    • Symptoms are improving
    • School Nurse has provided clearance to return

    Negative Test Result

    • Proof of negative test result and note from Healthcare Provider
    • Fever-free for 24hrs WITHOUT fever reducing medication (Tylenol or Advil)
    • School Nurse has provided clearance to return

    Asymptomatic/Positive Cases (Spanish): If an asymptomatic person receives a positive COVID test, they must remain on “Home Isolation” until 10 days have passed from the date of their test

    Determined not to have COVID-19: Staff and students may return PRIOR to Home Isolation 10day minimum requirement only IF:

    • Healthcare provider attests that the person does not have COVID-19 
    • A written note by the Healthcare Provider is given to the School Nurse.
    • School Nurse has provided clearance to return to school

    Possible Exposure/Quarantine (Spanish):The school nurse in partnership with the LA Dept. Public Health will be involved in contact tracing, determining exposure, and notifying any staff and students that have been exposed and need to quarantine for 14 days.
    You are considered exposed if you have:

    • Been within 6ft of someone with confirmed COVID19 for a cumulative duration of 15minutes within a  24hr period with or without a mask.
    • Been in the same classroom (cohort) as someone with  confirmed COVID19
    • Had any unprotected contact with bodily fluids (saliva, mucous, blood, vomit, stool).

    The contacts of the quarantined individuals (ie. Siblings) are not considered exposed and do not need to be quarantined, per LACDPH.

     

    Prevention Strategies

    Face coverings (Spanish) need to be worn correctly by completely covering the nose and mouth.

    Physical Distancing (Spanish) of 6ft must be maintained at all times to the extent possible with members outside of your household.

    Proper Hand Hygiene (Spanish)

    • Hand washing - Wet Hands. Add soap. Scrub front and back of hands, in-between fingers, fingernails, thumbs, and wrists for 20 seconds. Rinse. Dry.
    • Hand Sanitizer - must be used under direct supervision of young children. 60% or greater alcohol content. Follow instructions for hand washing and AIR DRY. Drying process is how it works
    • Cough & Sneeze into your elbow and clean hands.

    Cleaning and Disinfecting (Spanish): Read labels on all cleaning products. Clean surfaces first to remove dirt. Apply disinfectant as instructed with enough dwell time (time disinfectant must stay wet on surface to kill germs).
