SMASH/Muir Water Intrusion Project Update May 31, 2024
Posted by Esmeralda Careaga on 5/31/2024 12:40:00 PM
The Smash/Muir Water Intrusion Project represents a comprehensive campus-wide endeavor aimed at revitalizing and enriching our educational infrastructure. This initiative involves a complete revamp of roofing systems, stucco, windows, doors, and flooring, alongside substantial structural enhancements. A crucial component of this renovation is ensuring that all classrooms and restrooms meet Americans with Disabilities Act compliance standards, integrating a range of additional improvements. We're pleased to announce that Buildings A, B, C, and D have received Division of the State Architect (DSA) approval, with Construction Change Directives submitted for each building awaiting further review and approval by the DSA.
An essential goal of this project is to guarantee the comprehensive waterproofing and sealing of the entire campus. This entails meticulous care to uphold the integrity of building envelopes, ensuring that all structures are impermeable to water infiltration and environmentally sound. This precaution is crucial for the durability of campus buildings and the safety and well-being of its occupants.
The goal is to finish the project in preparation for the fall 2025 academic session, providing students with a revitalized, secure, and cutting-edge educational setting.
Project Progress:
The construction of the mock up to showcase the waterproof system is ongoing.
The concrete pour for the footings of Buildings A, C, and D has been completed.
Installation of bottom rebar is currently ongoing for Building B.
The removal of exterior stucco across the entire campus is in progress.
Installation of additional scaffolding for the roof and surrounding plaster access is ongoing.
