As part of SMMUSD’s local obligation bond measure, the district wanted to focus on providing new Next Generation (NextGen) learning furnishings at all of the District’s elementary and middle schools. The new furnishings were intended to help bring all classrooms into closer alignment with pedagogical concepts such as project-based learning, student collaboration, flexibility and the District's Whole Child Approach, as defined in the District's Educational Specifications. In May of 2019 Lionakis was selected to assist SMMUSD in a two-phased project to develope the programming, planning, budgeting and design of a Pilot Program (Phase 1), along with the subsequent selection and installation of NextGen learning furnishings to be implemented district-wide (Phase 2).
