Withdrawing from Samohi
Families of students who choose to no longer attend Santa Monica High School must complete the Affidavit of Check Out form to start the process of withdrawing from school so that their student is not considered truant or a drop out. Families can either email or bring in the completed form to our enrollment specialist Dina Mendoza at dmendoza@smmusd.org.
Compulsory Education Law states that all students between 6 and 18 must attend school.
California Education Code Section 48200: “Each person between the ages of 6 and 18 years...is subject to compulsory full-time education. Each person subject to compulsory full-time education and each person subject to compulsory continuation education...shall attend the public full-time day school...for the full time designated as the length of the school day...and each parent, guardian, or other person having control or charge of such pupil shall send the pupil to the public full-time day school...for the full time designated as the length of the school day.”
Students leave for many reasons, including:
- Choosing to attend Olympic High School
- Choosing to attend another public or private school in California
- Choosing to homeschool
- Moving to another state or out of the country
- Having passed the California High School Proficiency Exam (not just signing up to take the exam)
Please work with your student’s advisor or house principal if you have any questions. They are here to support our students.
