Semester Course (5 credits)
Prerequisite: U.S. History P or U.S. History AP
This course involves the study of the American political system and the institutions of government on which it is centered.
This course will examine the United States Constitution and the function of the government in today's society.
This course is the culmination of civic literacy that prepares students for the responsibilites of citizenship.
Topics will include:- types of authority;
- basic functions of government;
- rights and responsibilites of citzenship;
- constitution;
- the electoral process;
- branches of government, and
- state and local government.
United States Government AP
Grade Level: 12 Meets UC/CSU Requirements
Year Course (5 credits per semester)
Prerequisite: U.S. History P or U.S. History AP
This course is designed to give students a critical perspective on politics and government.
The course involves both the study of general concepts used to interpret Unites States politics and the analysis of specific case studies. It also requires familiarity with the various institutions, groups, beliefs, and ideas that make up the American political reality.
At the conclusion of the course, students will have the opportunity to take the AP Exam.
