Ethnic Studies

  • Ethnic Studies focuses on the experiences of people of color in the United States with an emphasis on the social histories of Asian, Latinx, Black, and American Indian communities. In this course students learn to identify and analyze systems of oppression, including racism, classism, sexism, and homophobia, and trace modern social problems to their historical roots. In addition, student learn about various forms of power and how to exercise power collectively to transform communities. The course is embedded with social justice standards that emphasize identity, diversity, justice, and action. The course is UC approved and, as a social studies elective, satisfies a “G” requirement.
