-
Project Safe Zone is committed to promoting awareness about issues of gender equity. This program strives to provide students a safe environment where they can explore, recognize and challenge the stereotypes and prejudices that affect our community.
Mission Statement
Project Safe Zone is committed to promoting awareness and sensitivity around the issues of sexism, homophobia, and gender equity. This program strives to provide students a non-discriminatory, inclusive environment, which facilitates the knowledge and empowerment to both recognize and challenge stereotypes and prejudices.
Objectives- To empower students to make a positive change in their current and future environments by providing them opportunities to gain knowledge about and to examine critical issues around the topics of gender bias and inequity.
- To provide students with an introduction to critical issues around homophobia and sexism, as well as societal and personal discrimination and intolerance.
- To enable students to use knowledge and information to make positive changes in their daily behavior, attitudes and perceptions and to infuse change into society as a whole.
Our Long Term Goals
Project Safe Zone is by definition an expansion program. It started as a small grass roots movement by Samohi students and is currently being expanded to other high schools on a pilot program basis. Ultimately, the original designers envision this valuable program expanding to the college and university levels as well as to private industry.
