Title I Funding
At this time McKinley no longer qualifies for Title I funding and is no longer a Title I school. Title I was approximately $125,000 in federal funding for expenditures that help to close the achievement/opportunity gap such as the Intervention Teacher, theater program, staff professional development etc. Schools qualify for schoolwide Title I funding (used for all students) when at least 40% of students are considered low-income based on the Free-Reduced Lunch Application, or Targeted-Assistance Title I funding (used to support low-income and at-risk students) when at least 35-39% of students are considered low-income. In 2022-23 McKinley was at 34%, just 1% away from qualifying. More information can be found in last year’s principal presentation available here.
Even though meals are now free for all students, we need all families to complete the Free-Reduced Lunch Application in order to potentially re-qualify for Title I funding this 23-24 school year. The Free-Reduced Lunch Application is available at https://www.smmusd.org/Page/4083 Our goal is 100% participation! Please reach out to our office if you need assistance completing the form. Thank you for your help, and thank you for donating to the PTA at www.mckinleypta.com and to the Santa Monica Education Foundation at www.smedfoundation.org!
