  • Art
    Students will learn about the art principles and elements to help analyze, interpret and evaluate their own works as well as the work of others. This class provides a broad artistic experience by providing multiple methods for creation. Students begin by reviewing drawing techniques and work towards painting, sculpture and mixed media assignments. Grades: 7, 8

    Concert Band
    Concert Band spends significant time on technique and skills. The Band performs during the year in a variety of settings. Students will rehearse wind literature, classical transcriptions, jazz and orchestra literature. Grades: 6, 7, 8 Requirement: intermediate and advanced players

    Concert Choir
    This non-auditioned ensemble is open to any student interested in choral singing. Concert Choir provides a place for students to learn the foundation of skills needed for choral music. Students will study a varied repertoire of choral literature representing different historical periods, styles and cultures. This course is an introduction to choral singing, performance techniques and music literacy. This ensemble will perform at several school concerts and participate in at least one choral clinic or festival. Grade: 6, 7, 8

    Exploratory
    In 6th grade Exploratory, students spend 12 weeks in Pre-Avid/Decisions, 12 weeks in a word processing/computer use class and 12 weeks in Art. In Pre-Avid/Decisions the focus is on academic skills such as organization, test taking and Cornell Notes. Students also discuss health and decision-making. The use of technology with a focus on the correct use of keyboarding skills is the focus of this section. In Art, students learn about basic drawing skills, art principles, color theory, painting and sculptural methods. Students are also introduced to new art vocabulary, terms and principles.     Honors Choir
    Honor’s Choir  is an advanced auditioned ensemble for treble voice. Emphasis will be placed on characteristics unique to treble singing. Students will study a varied repertoire of choral literature representing different historical periods, styles, and cultures. This course is a study of choral singing, performance techniques, and music literacy. This ensemble will perform in several school concerts and participate in at least one choral clinic or festival.  Grades: 7, 8 Requirement: Audition

    Intro to Winds
    Students play instruments such as bassoon, clarinet, flute, French horn, sax, trombone, trumpet, tuba, percussion, and oboe. Students perform for the school and play in competitions. Grade: 6 Requirement: must already play an instrument.

    String Orchestra
    Students play instruments such as the violin, viola, cello and bass. Students perform for the school and play in competitions. Grades: 6, 7, 8 Requirement: must already play an instrument

    Student Council
    Students learn about leadership skills through the planning of middle school events. The course includes theories of leadership, problem-solving, conflict mediation, speech-making, committee work and citizenship development. Students plan, organize and participate in activities such as dances, spirit week, elementary school visits and campus tours, sports competitions, Halloween costume contest and the middle school talent show. Students are encouraged to organize campus clean-ups and other community service activities. Student Council also designs and produces the middle school yearbook. Grades: 7, 8 Requirement: application

    Theater
    Students train in the fundamentals of theatre and technical theatre. Students participate in acting, set design, lighting design and costume design. Acting techniques include monologue work and improvisation. Students also have the opportunity to experiment with script writing and analyzing. This course is currently offered after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15 - 4:30 p.m Grades: 7, 8 1st semester; Grade 6: 2nd semester
