January 2021
Hello and Welcome New Malibu Families!
We are thrilled that you are interested in joining the Malibu Middle School community. We have so many exciting things going on that you won’t want to miss out on!
We became our own Middle School, separate from the High School, and opened our new Middle School building in the Fall of 2019. This building houses 12 Middle School classrooms that feature new, flexible seating and furniture that is conducive to group work and project based learning. The new building also gives our Middle School students their own area on campus separate from the High School. In addition, we have opened our new main administration building in January 2021, which features new offices, a beautiful new library, state of the art science lab classrooms, and other classrooms as well. It's such an exciting time for Malibu schools!
Our Middle School academic program is based on a progressive platform. From 6th to 8th grade, students take on an increasingly comprehensive and challenging curriculum. A core program of language arts, mathematics, science, social studies and physical education defines our Middle School program. Sixth graders are enrolled in Humanities where they learn language arts and social studies; this allows them to move more smoothly from elementary to middle school. Selected students are able to go on to honors mathematics starting in the 6th grade.
The goal is to help our students navigate the middle school years while giving them the tools and encouragement to achieve academically and personally. Our small, personalized school allows a flexible academic program to meet the needs of all students. Situated on the Pacific coast just outside of Los Angeles, we have the benefit of being a small school community where every student is known and the parent community is engaged and supportive.
Enrollment for the 2021-22 school year is open now! However, during the current school closure, all enrollment will be done electronically. Though the Malibu Middle school office is closed, our office staff will continue to work remotely for the remainder of the school year. Please follow the important steps below to begin enrollment at Malibu Middle School:
STEP 1:
In order to obtain enrollment documents, you must first provide proof of residency within Malibu Middle School's boundaries. Required documents can be found using the following link: Documents Required for Verification/Proof of Residency.
(*If you do not reside within our school boundaries, please see information regarding permits below.)STEP 2:
Please provide a current immunization record. Please note, you will also be required to submit all required vaccine documents once school reopens. Please refer to www.shotsforschool.org for more detailed information regarding immunization requirements.
STEP 3:
Please provide a current school transcript.
Once you have collected all three components; Proof of Residency, Immunization Record, and Current School Transcript, please then scan and submit the required documents electronically to our Registrar, Beth Soloway, all in one email at the following email address: bsoloway@smmusd.org.
Please note, for those of you who submit proof of residency electronically, you will be required to submit physical hard copy proof of residency documents to our office staff within the first 3 weeks of school reopening. These physical copies must be from the same copies you provided electronically, but no more than 45 days old.
Once we receive and review these three pieces of information, we will send you an enrollment packet that needs to be filled out completely and scanned back to our Registrar, Beth Soloway at bsoloway@smmusd.org. Partial or incomplete enrollment packets will not be accepted. In addition to the enrollment packet, you will also be receiving a Course Selection sheet that you will need to fill out and return to your counselor who will assist you with your class schedule.
Confirmation from our office will be emailed to you once you are officially enrolled. All subsequent information such as final class schedule and teacher placement will be provided prior to the start of the 2020-2021 school year by your counselor.
We can't wait to meet you in person and truly look forward to working with you and your family. Please do not hesitate to contact us at bsoloway@smmusd.org if you have any further enrollment questions.
Sincerely,
Melisa Andino, Principal
