Message from Superintendent Dr. Antonio Shelton

June 11, 2026

Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, Students and Community Members,

As we close out the 2025-2026 school year, I want to take a moment to reflect on and celebrate the many accomplishments of our students, staff and families across Santa Monica and Malibu.

Congratulations to the graduating Class of 2026 at Malibu High School, Olympic High School and Santa Monica High School. Reaching this milestone represents years of hard work, growth, resilience and determination. We are incredibly proud of all you have accomplished and excited to see the many paths you will pursue in the years ahead. I also want to recognize our Adult Education graduates and the students moving on from elementary and middle school as they prepare for new opportunities and experiences.

Throughout this school year, we have continued our commitment to create engaging, inclusive and meaningful learning experiences for all students. From student-led civic action projects and real-world career exploration opportunities to outstanding achievements in academics, athletics, visual and performing arts and student leadership, our students have demonstrated what is possible when curiosity, creativity and perseverance come together.

We have championed forward-thinking strategies and transformative approaches that support both academic achievement and student well-being. By fostering environments where students feel connected, valued and empowered, we are helping ensure every learner has the opportunity to thrive.

These efforts reflect the heart of our mission: extraordinary achievement for all students while simultaneously closing the achievement gap. They also reflect our shared values of belonging, curiosity and empowerment, which continue to guide our work and strengthen our school communities.

Thank you for being an essential part of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. Your partnership, support and commitment to our students make a lasting difference each and every day. I wish you a safe, restful and enjoyable summer, and I look forward to welcoming our students and staff back for another exciting year of learning this fall.

To our recent high school graduates, please read our congratulatory message and enjoy a short video from members of our school board (https://bit.ly/CongratsFromBOE2026  and a congratulatory video message from me (https://bit.ly/CongratsFromDrShelton2026).
