2025-26 Permit Applications

All permits and support documents must be submitted electronically. Paper submissions are not available and will not be accepted.

The Board of Education desires to provide enrollment options that meet the diverse needs and interests of district students. Upon request, the Superintendent or designee may allow students who live within the district to transfer to another school; may accept students from other districts; and may allow students to transfer out of the district. Interdistrict Permit/Open Enrollment

Students who reside outside the boundaries of SMMUSD may apply to attend school in SMMUSD on an interdistrict permit (interdistrict transfer release) from their school of residence. This information applies to students who do not live in Santa Monica or Malibu who seek to enroll in an SMMUSD school.

Intradistrict Permit/Open Enrollment

The period to apply for an Intradistrict Permit for fall 2025-26 enrollment has expired.

Verification of Continuing Enrollment

Students who reside outside the boundaries of SMMUSD who are currently enrolled in an SMMUSD school on an interdistrict permit must submit a Verification of Continuing Enrollment. This information applies to students currently enrolled in SMMUSD on an interdistrict permit.

Deadline for submittal of Verification of Continuing Enrollment is June 1, 2025.

Outgoing Permit Information and Application

Students who reside within the boundaries of SMMUSD may apply to attend a school outside SMMUSD on an outgoing interdistrict permit. This information applies to students who live in Santa Monica or Malibu who seek to enroll in a school outside the district.
