OBPP is for ALL Students

The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program is intended for those students who are bullied, those who bully, those who bully and are bullied, and the bystanders who witness the bullying-like behavior. Language is important! We avoid using the labels of Bully and Victim. Labeling students can stereotype and be harmful.

There are 4 components to the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program:

  • Schoolwide Component - Each school establishes a coordinating committee, trains all staff members, administers the annual Olweus Bullying Questionnaire to all students (gr.3-12), holds regular staff discussions, coordinates school-wide efforts, and engages families.
  • Classroom Component - Teachers review and post the school wide anti bullying rules, hold regular class community-building meetings, and engage families.
  • Individual Component - Staff members supervise student activities, intervene on-the-spot when bullying-like behavior occurs, respond when bullying is reported/suspected, and develop intervention plans for students involved in bullying.
  • Community Component - Schools develop partnerships with and involve the community in their bullying prevention efforts, and spread community wide anti bullying principles.
