Instructional Technology in SMMUSD
In SMMUSD, we believe that educational technology is a powerful tool meant to enhance, not replace, the essential human interactions and critical thinking that drive academic excellence. Our goal is to empower students to become versatile, lifelong learners by providing purposeful digital tools that foster curiosity and support deep classroom engagement. To ensure our practices consistently balance modern innovation with whole-child wellness, the district has launched the Instructional Technology Working Group. Composed of parents and educator representatives from all school sites and key district organizations, this collaborative committee is dedicated to reviewing instructional technology use and emerging tools like Generative AI. The group will examine important topics related to student purposeful use of technology, instructional technology and Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in schools.
Instructional Technology Working Group
The purpose of this working group is to thoughtfully examine current practices and explore how instructional technology can be used purposefully, meaningfully and in developmentally appropriate ways that support both student learning and wellness. As Generative AI continues to emerge in educational settings, this group will also examine opportunities, challenges, ethical considerations and future implications for students and staff.
Community Feedback
The SMMUSD Instructional Technology Working Group needs your perspective to develop clear, balanced guidance on classroom technology use that supports student success and wellness.
