    Eligibility

    To be eligible for the promotion, the 8th grader must meet the following criteria:

    1. No more than two fails ("F") on the final semester report cards (January/June) combined.
    2. Completed the 8th Grade Community Service Project (12 hours of community service during the 2019-2020 academic year and presentation during the school day and at Open House on May 14th)
    3. No debt owed to the school, cafeteria or music program. Overdue library books, lost or damaged textbooks, Physical education locks, money, musical instrument repairs must be returned or paid for before 3:00 pm on May 21, 2020. Only cash or money order are accepted for these debts.
    4. No excessive behavior issues as determined by administration. (Students/parents will be notified in advance if this is a concern.)

    8th Grade Six Flags Magic Mountain Rewards Field Trip (To Be Confirmed)

    Friday, May 15, 2020
    (ineligible at 180 detention minutes)
    Students will meet in their Homebase class in the morning for first period. We will plan to return to Lincoln around 8:00 p.m. Tentative cost is $50.00 which includes all-day admission and transportation to the amusement park. Please see Ms. Takahashi if you have any questions about tickets/cost for this field trip.

    Students who are ineligible to attend will stay at Lincoln and work on alternate assignments. School staff will supervise.

    Proper Attire for Promotion Ceremony

    Dress to impress! Our dressing policy still applies for promotions.
    - Dress shirts, nice pants, daytime dresses, skirts, and blouses.
    - Ties, sweaters, sport jackets or suits are optional.
    - Formal gowns, strapless dresses, tuxedos, t-shirts, shorts, or jeans are not appropriate.


    8th Grade Dance

    Parents interested in volunteering to plan and organize for the dance, contact 8th Grade Activities Coordinator, Mr. John Obusek at jobusek@smmusd.org.

    Friday, May 29, 2020
    7:00 – 9:30 pm
    (ineligible at 270 detention minutes)

    More details to follow regarding the ticketed event which will include the dance, catering, dessert, and a photo.

    Bring a 4x6” baby picture to your Homebase teacher (or Mr. Obusek) by Friday, May 24, 2019. These pictures will be displayed at the dance. This photo will not be returned!

    The dance will take place in the school's cafeteria supervised by administrators, teachers, security, and parents.

    School dress code rules apply for the 8th grade dance. Party dress is acceptable; strapless dresses, formal gowns and tuxedos will NOT be allowed. T-shirts, shorts, and jeans are NOT recommended. Open-toed shoes allowed, but heels should be no taller than 2-inches high.

    Students who violate the dress code will not be admitted to the dance.

    Students are expected to stay for the duration of the dance once dropped off. Any student who needs to leave early must have a parent pick them up at the front gate.


    8th Grade Beach Day

    Friday, June 5, 2020
    (Ineligible at 210 detention minutes)
    There will be NO AM CLASSES on Beach Day. Students will meet in their Homebase class in the morning for first period.

    Students and teachers will leave Lincoln as a group at 9:15AM, walk to the beach, and return to Lincoln at approximately 3:00PM. Eighth grade core teachers will supervise.

    Students should bring small coolers with lunches since there are limited places to purchase food. (Students who typically buy lunch at Lincoln may pre-arrange to pick up a school lunch bag for the day. Coordinate this with your Homebase teacher or Ms. Takahashi.)

    This is a walking field trip so students should only bring items that they can carry.

    Students who are ineligible to attend will stay at Lincoln and work on alternate assignments. School staff will supervise.


    8th Grade Assembly/Yearbook Signing Day

    Monday, June 8, 2020
    (Ineligible at 180 detention minutes)

    Students will meet in their Homebase classes in the morning for first period.

    First part of day: Students will be in the auditorium for an 8th Grade Assembly with awards and presentations.

    Second part of day: After lunch, students will meet in their Homebases again to pick up any pre-purchased yearbooks. Teachers will then take all 8th grade homebases to the front lawn and patios for yearbook signing. Any extra yearbooks may be purchased with cash by the flagpole at that time. Students may participate in yearbook signing without purchasing a yearbook. Please see Ms. Takahashi if you have any questions about the yearbook.

    Students who are ineligible to participate in yearbook signing will be working on alternate assignments in a supervised classroom.


    Promotion Rehearsal

    Tuesday, June 9, 2020

    Jade Core will meet in their Homebase classes for Period 1. Onyx Core will meet in their regular Period 1 classes. Cores will then alternate rehearsals for their promotion ceremonies.

    Periods 1-3: Jade Core will be in the auditorium for promotion practice (Onyx Core will attend Periods 1-3 classes.)

    Periods 4-6: Onyx Core will be in the auditorium for promotion practice.

    (Jade Core will attend Periods 4-6 classes.)

    During rehearsal, students will run through the entire promotion ceremony to know where they meet, in what order they line up, where to sit, when to sit/stand, order of the program, how to exit, etc.

    Promotion tickets will be distributed at the end of the school day.

    Each eligible student will receive 3 tickets to the Promotion Ceremony. No extra tickets are available. We recommend you coordinate with other families who do not plan to use their tickets if you need additional tickets.

    8th Grade Promotion Ceremony

    Wednesday, June 10, 2020
    9:00AM - Jade Core (Students should arrive at 8:15AM)
    11:00AM - Onyx Core (Students should arrive at 10:15AM)

    Parking may be limited in the immediate area, so plan to walk, carpool, and allow time to park. Permit parking enforcement will be relaxed within a two-block radius of our school for this event.

    Each eligible student will receive 3 tickets to the Promotion Ceremony at the end of the school day on June 9. No extra tickets are available. We recommend you coordinate with other families who do not plan to use their tickets if you need additional tickets. There will be a wait list at the entrance of the auditorium the day of promotion. Wait list guests will be allowed seating upon availability.

    Please be respectful of others by remaining in your seat and not blocking aisles to get a picture of your child. Pictures can be taken at the end of the ceremony.

    Students are dismissed to go home once the ceremony has ended. Students may NOT attend the other core promotion ceremony unless you are attending with your parent(s) as a ticketed guest.
