Theaters & Performance Venues

The Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District has six spaces dedicated to performances. They have fixed seating and are available for rental.

Fixed-seat theaters include Barnum Hall, the Memorial Greek Amphitheatre, the Theater at Malibu High School, the Amphitheatre at Malibu High School, Lincoln Middle School Auditorium, and John Adams Middle School Auditorium

The District also has many spaces that do not have fixed seating that are ideal for performances and events. See details on all locations below.


Barnum Hall - Santa Monica High School

Memorial Greek Amphitheatre - Santa Monica High School

Barnum Hall, our show piece – Built in 1937 by the Works Project Administration (WPA). It is designed in the Art Deco style of Streamline Moderne. The Hall has been fully restored and renovated. Barnum Hall hosts over one hundred and fifty school and professional events a year.
Seating: 1250 with 750 orchestra seats & 500 mezzanine/balcony seats
Special Features: A nine-foot Fazioli Grand Piano and Wurlitzer Theater Pipe Organ

Built in 1922 as the Open Air Memorial Theatre, this Greek Style amphitheatre was built to honor Santa Monicans who served in World War I.
The Amphitheatre, four blocks from the ocean, is a great venue for concerts, pep rallies and graduation.
Seating: 3,400 on concrete risers

Theater - Malibu High School

Amphitheatre - Malibu High School

This intimate theatre was built in the 1960s and renovated in the 1990s.
It is a wonderful venue for theater performances and music concerts.

Auditorium - Lincoln Middle School

Auditorium - John Adams Middle School

Built in the 1960s, this modern theater provides a large stage and an intimate setting for theater, dance, music and speakers.
Seating: 550 on one level
