| Samohi is offering Intensive Intervention Summer School (IISS). Intensive Intervention Summer School (IISS) is designed to give students the opportunity to recover credits. It is not designed nor is it possible for students to take classes during the summer without having first taken the course and received a D or an F grade. Students cannot open up their schedule by taking classes during the summer the year before they are normally scheduled to take them. There is no “get ahead” during the summer. The only students who are enrolled in summer school are students who need remediation or credit recovery. Students are placed into summer school classes based upon graduation need and the grades that they earned. For example, a senior who has failed a class required for graduation will get priority over a junior who has failed the same class. As spaces become available, we would accommodate students who need to repeat a class to raise their grade. (Typically, students who earned a D.) There are no guarantees of course offerings or enrollment. ONLY students who have advisor/counselor, parent and student signatures on the summer school contract will be considered for enrollment. Letters will go out to enrolled students the week of June 14, 2010. Summer school begins on Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Students cannot begin summer school after the third day (Thursday, July 1, 2010.) The last day of summer school is Friday, August 6, 2010. In a departure from previous years, the summer school session will run Tuesday through Fridays. There is no school on Mondays this summer. Attendance for IISS is critical. Students who miss more than three (3) days, will most likely not earn credits. As such, the summer school principal may drop a student after the third absence. We will make every opportunity to call parents, if a student is dropped. Students who do not show for the first day of IISS may lose their spot, if they have not contacted the Summer School Principal previously. There are no acceptable absences during summer school. If vacations are planned during the time that summer school is in session, do not enroll your student. Due to budget considerations and credit hours, we do not have flexibility with attendance. Attendance for all days of summer school is mandatory. |

There is a tardy policy during the summer. There are progressive consequences for multiple tardies. If a student has 8 tardies, the student will have earned the equivalent of a one day of absence. Our rules during summer school are the same rules that we follow during the school year. If in doubt, please check http://www.samohi.smmusd.org/Students/index.htm The Pinnacle grade system will be running for summer school. New students to Samohi can request their access PIN code from their teachers. Gradebook access is at http://www.samohi.smmusd.org/Students/freshmen/grade_instructions.htm |
