Cap & Gown Orders
November – December 31, $30
January 1 – April 30, 2012, $60 (no orders will be taken from May 1 through June 13, 2012)
June 13, 2012 $100 (Cash only)
Cap and Gown packets, which contain an order form and measuring tape for cap along with graduation announcements and other senior items, are available in the Activities Office.

Cap and Gown distribution will take place Wednesday, June 13th in the Barnum Hall Foyer. Students will need their Samohi ID and be clear of all school obligations (e.g. textbooks, library, College Center, Saturday School, yearbook). Seniors WILL NOT receive their cap and gown until all obligations are satisfied.

Packets are available in the Activities Office for the Class of 2012. The Josten’s representative will be on campus at Back to School Night, Open House and periodically throughout the school year.

Diploma Name Verification
The name on your high school diploma will be the same as it is on your transcript unless you change it. In order to change your name you must have a copy of your birth certificate where your name is shown legally. Bring a copy of your birth certificate the day of registration.

Graduation
The graduation ceremony on Thursday, June 14, 2012 is a formal recognition of four years of successful academic work. Graduation is an occasion for joy, reflection, and dignity. The ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m. Please be sure to take pictures before the seniors report to their rooms at 4:30 pm as caps and gowns are returned as part of the ceremony. Bouquets of balloons, flowers and other objects that may distract the view of those around are prohibited, as are blow horns and other noise makers that prevent student’s name from being heard by family members.

Graduation Rehearsal
Attendance at rehearsal is MANDATORY for those planning to walk in the graduation ceremony. Attendance will be taken. Students who do not take part in rehearsal will not participate in the ceremony. Rehearsal will be held in the History Building and Greek Theatre, June 14th, at 10:30 a.m.
Details regarding line up, processional, recessional, seating, receiving diplomas, and other information pertaining to the ceremony will be discussed. Students will be requested to show their current Samohi student identification card in order to participate along with being cleared of all school obligations.

Graduation Tickets
Each student is given three (3) guest tickets when the senior picks up their cap and gown. Beginning May 4th and continuing through May 14th seniors can sign up for the extra ticket lottery in the Activities Office before school, lunch, or after school (3:16pm). The lottery offers them an opportunity to purchase an extra ticket for $5.00. Lottery results will be posted Thursday, May 17th and students must be present to purchase tickets on Saturday, May 19th from 9:00 – 9:30 a.m. ONLY in the Vikes' Café. Any student who does not show up at this date and time will not be guaranteed extra tickets. Any additional tickets that become available will be sold for $10.00 each after Graduation Rehearsal on June 14th.

Grad Nite Celebration
Grad Nite is an extravagant all-night party for the graduating class of Santa Monica High School. This event is put together by parents, district, teachers, staff, local businesses, and community members. Ticket price is $100 (August 2011 – June 13, 2012) $125 CASH at the door. Grad Nite will take place on Thursday, June 14, 2012 from 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Join us at the first Grad Nite Meeting Monday, October 10th at 7 p.m. in the Student Cafeteria.

Magazine Drive
This year, the Class of 2012 along with Samohi ASB will be promoting a magazine drive in order to raise funds for the senior class. More information will be distributed at the period-by-period meeting in September. Please encourage your son/daughter to participate, as the incentives offered will help with the cost of senior year activities (e.g. prom ticket).

Panoramic Picture
October 19, 2011 is the day set aside for the whole senior class to gather together and have a panoramic group picture taken. Advance sales are available at registration and in the Vikes’ Inn.

Parking Lottery
There will be no student parking on campus this year.
Students parking on city streets are reminded to read posted signs carefully and that they will not be released from campus to move vehicles during or in-between classes. Parking is also available at the Civic Center Parking Structure located at Civic Center Drive and Fourth Street at $8 maximum daily charge or $82.50 per month.

Parent Meeting
Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 7:00 p.m., in Barnum Hall, is a meeting Senior Parents will not want to miss. This meeting is jam packed with important information including Academic and Grade requirements, College, SAT and ACT, Scholarships and Grants, Senior Year Activities, Prom, Graduation Requirements, Graduation and Grad Nite information.

Every senior student will receive an information packet in the mail to their home address along with instructions on how to make an appointment online to have their Senior Portrait taken by White Studios. Students do not have to buy a package but if they want their picture in the yearbook they must arrange for an appointment. As a courtesy, White Studios will have their mobile studio here on campus twice (August 10t6h. – September 3rd.and again September 17t6h – October 6th). If students miss these dates, they can make arrangements with White Studios to have their portrait taken at their North Hollywood studio location Tuesday – Saturday. On the day of the appointment, please bring the sitting fee that runs between $21-$70, depending on the options chosen. To set an appointment online or to learn more, go to:

Senior Honors Night
This celebration will take place on Friday, May 4, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in Barnum Hall. This is a ceremony to recognize and celebrate senior academic achievements, honors, scholarships and awards. Everyone may attend. If a student receives an invitation, it means they are receiving recognition.

Senior Prom
This year’s Senior Prom will take place at the Beverly Hilton on Saturday, May 26, 2012 from 8:00 p.m. to midnight. Guest pass applications for seniors wishing to bring a non-Samohi guest and financial aid applications will be available sometime in February. Ticket sales will take place April 30th – May 11th from 3:30 to 4:00 p.m. in the Activities Office. Ticket prices will increase at a rate of $5 each day, so plan early for purchases
and save money. Distribution of tickets will take place May 23rd – 25th during lunch in the Activities Office. Students will be requested to show their current Samohi student identification in order to purchase and pick-up tickets along with being cleared of all school obligations. (e.g., textbook, library, college center, financial, Saturday school and attendance). Cash only at the time of purchase, no exceptions..

We ask parents not to assist students in renting hotel rooms for post prom related parties.

Senior Trips
Santa Monica High School or the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District does not sponsor senior or any other kind of grade level trips. You or your child may receive a letter, flyer, email, phone call or some other form of communication telling you that they are working with our school, which is not true. Please be on the lookout for these communications and be aware statements being made of affiliation or working together are not true. The school does not sponsor these trips.

Senior Week
We have set aside the week of June 11th as Senior Week. Students will take their final exams in their classes the week of June 4th They will not be attending classes while other students are taking final exams. Seniors must report on each day in order to participate in the graduation ceremony.
Students will receive a clearance that they will need to present in order to pick up their cap and gown on Wednesday, June 13th. Do not expect to get clearance at other times. Parents, relatives, or friends may not stand in for the student.

Textbooks
This year students may check out textbooks during registration. Once you have your current Samohi ID card and your schedule, you may check out History, Math, Science, Foreign Language and AP Class textbooks. Parents, relatives, or friends may not stand in for the student. Students will also have the opportunity to check out textbooks once school has begun.

Yearbook and Senior Yearbook Ads
Yearbook sales begin at registration. Prices increase throughout the school year ranging for $75 - $90 depending on when the purchase is made. Space is available in the last one-third of the yearbook for senior ads. Collages may be done in full page sheets which can be purchased by individuals, friends, and groups. Students should avoid the stress of their senior year by purchasing their Senior Ad early! Senior Ad Prices: Full Page Layout = $200; Full Page Collage = $150. If you get your Senior Ad turned in by December 10, 2011 you will receive a $25 refund. All Senior Ads are due by January 6, 2012 in L104.
