| The meeting was called to order by Shari Orgel, Executive Vice President of PTSA at 7:00 pm. Maria Rodriguez is translating. Minutes: Minutes are approved in Committee. Minutes are posted on the website. Financial Report: Lauri Crane presented the financial report. $82,935.00 in account as of 12/1/05. As of 12/31/05 balance in account is $88,415.00 Shari discussed the Direct Donation campaign and read a teacher's letter of thanks. Program Presentation: "What your kids won't tell you but you needs to know" Susan Levine, LCSW spoke about issues relating to teens stress. She started the meeting by asking the audience what issues were important to them in High School. She noted that it was the same issues that impact teens today and cause stress in their lives. Ms. Levine also discussed how to identify the signs of stress and depression although most of the symptoms that can be observed are apparent only after the teen is heading towards a crisis. There was also a panel discussion with two teachers: Cathy Marsh and Douglas Kim. Cathy Marsh teachers the Leadership class and English. Douglas Kim is the athletic director. Both discussed the importance of becoming involved in activities at school. Ms. Marsh discussed some of the numerous clubs that are on campus and Mr. Kim discussed the athletics programs and how important athletics are to a young person's growth and development and sense of involvement. A question and answer period followed and questions were asked about how to identify early depression and early on stress with no real answers about this. Information was also provided about available resources including on-site therapists at Samohi. Several handouts were passed around which were informative and helpful.
