Fifth annual State of Our Schools Event

SMMUSD Teams with PTA and CEPS to Present Informational Report

Next week, SMMUSD will once again partner with the Santa Monica-Malibu Council of PTAs and Community for Excellent Public Schools (CEPS) for the Fifth Annual State of Our Schools, a community report on Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District student achievement, initiatives, and financial health.

The State of Our Schools event will take place in Santa Monica on Monday, October 25 from 6:30-9:00pm at the Santa Monica Main Public Library’s Martin Luther King Jr. Auditorium.  On Tuesday, October 26, the State of Our Schools event will take place from 6:30-9:00pm in Malibu at the Malibu High School Library, 30215 Morning View Dr.

This year’s report will feature a special guest speaker at the Santa Monica event, Santa Monica’s City Manager, Rod Gould, who will speak about the importance and benefits of a strong relationship between a city and its public schools.  Also speaking both nights will be Superintendent Tim Cuneo, Board of Education President Barry Snell, Vice President Kelly Pye, and representatives from the PTA Council and CEPS.

These educational forums are free and open to all members of the public.  Spanish translation is available and light refreshments will be served.

“Please join us at one of the State of Our School events next week,” encouraged Tim Cuneo, SMMUSD Superintendent.  “Our Santa Monica-Malibu schools pride themselves on excellence and accomplishment – but the district is facing significant challenges.  As a parents, community leaders, and concerned citizens, I hope you will take this opportunity to hear the very latest information about our schools and the challenges they face, while being entertained by some of our award-winning student musicians.  I look forward to seeing you at one of these events.”
