WHEN:

WHERE:
Will Rogers Learning Community,
SMMUSD is
excited to announce this year’s Will Rogers Science Expo in partnership with
The science
expo features an opportunity to view Will Rogers’ student projects where they
could construct a collection, create a portfolio, or explore through an
investigation their science topic of interest.
In addition, that evening students and families can actively participate
in hands-on science investigations designed in collaboration with Will Rogers’
teachers and SMC students. Students from
Professor Waugh’s independent science course and former SMC/ Copernicus
Institute participants consulted with Will Rogers’ science educator Pam
Dresher, where they were exposed to hands-on, standards based,
inquiry science at the elementary level.
Following their observations, the SMC students assisted in developing
grade level appropriate investigation stations for the community to engage
in. One station will demonstrate how
different elements determine which colors are visible on the color spectrum
using gas diffusion tubes.
In honor of
Earth Day, stop by and see the new SMC “Electric car” and the SMPD “Smart car”
on exhibit. These new cars embody
innovation and provide environmentally friendly alternatives. The SMC students are also providing special
exhibits featuring a laser nebula to further encourage and entice our budding
young scientists. This event and
collaboration was made possible by the Will Rogers PTA and grant monies secured
through The Copernicus/Aurora Projects, a SMC/ UC Riverside collaboration.
