Measure “R” General Information and Senior Exemptions
The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District would like to thank the voters of Santa Monica and Malibu for the passage of Measure “R” in the February 5, 2008, election. Your continued support of education in our communities is appreciated. Measure “R” consolidates and replaces the previous parcel taxes, known as Measure “Y” and Measure “S”, in the amount of $346.00 per parcel, and includes both a “Senior Exemption” and an annual CPI-U adjustment.
To qualify for the Measure “R”
Senior Exemption in 2008-09, senior citizens must be 65 years old by June 30th
and must own and occupy their properties as their primary residences. Those senior citizens who have previously
received the Senior Exemption from the Measure “S” parcel tax will be sent a
form for Measure “R” in May 2008. This
form must be completed, signed, and returned to the District Office by July 31,
2008. If you do not receive
a form by mid-June, please call Ms. Dawn Smithfield at (310) 450-8338, ext.

First-time applicants who
qualify may call Ms. Smithfield to be put on the application mailing list. This application must be completed, signed,
and returned with the two required proofs of age and property ownership to the
District Office by July 31, 2008.
