SMMUSD Board of Education to Hold Special Closed Session Meetings to Interview Interim Superintendent Candidates

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education will hold two closed session meetings to interview a panel of candidates for the Interim Superintendent position.  The first session will be at 10:00am on June 24th, and the second will be at 1:00pm on June 25th.  Both closed session meetings will be held in the conference room at the district office (1651 16th St., Santa Monica).

At its meeting on June 4, 2008, the Board of Education hired Leadership Associates to gather a pool of candidates for the position of Interim Superintendent.  The current Superintendent, Dianne Talarico, has accepted a Superintendency with another school district and will be leaving SMMUSD effective June 30, 2008.  At the June 4th meeting, the board expressed its desire to have an Interim Superintendent in place by July 1, 2008.

Leadership Associates and the district held community input sessions on June 12, 2008, at 3:00pm and 6:00pm in both the cities of Santa Monica and Malibu to allow members of the public and district employees to express the qualities and characteristics they are seeking in an Interim Superintendent.  During these input session, members of the public were asked to address two prompts: What are the desirable qualities, characteristics, background, and experiences (professional and personal) for the Interim Superintendent of SMMUSD? and

What do you see as the strengths of the district and the major challenges facing the district in the months ahead?  Leadership Associates took this public input into consideration when gathering the pool of candidates and creating a list of interview questions for board members to ask during the interviews.
