In
addition to the two regularly scheduled meetings in February (2/7/08 and
2/21/08), the SMMUSD Board of Education will be holding three special
meetings. Please note the following

The Board of Education will be
holding a joint meeting with the Personnel Commission. This workshop is intended to allow members
of the board and commission to be updated on the current status of the District-Wide
Classification and Compensation Study for the Classified Service. The purposes of this study are the
following: to 1) obtain accurate and
descriptive information about the positions in the classified service and 2)
determine that classified salaries are competitive for retention and
recruitment purposes. Discussion
will address response rates for questionnaire and interviews data, preparation
of classification specifications and feedback process, compensation
methodology, and the timeline leading up to this date as well as the completion
of the study.
Mr. William Ewing, President of Ewing Consulting Services, will address the Board of Education and the Personnel Commission regarding this study.
The Education Services department will hold a workshop for the Board of Education regarding current literacy programs and interventions in place in the district. They will review research and literature regarding program effectiveness and the need to continue to pursue, refine, and improve our literacy programs based on research.
The Board of Education and Superintendent will be holding a retreat as part of their ongoing focus on High Performing Governance Teams. The retreat will address best practices, agenda planning, roles and responsibilities of the board and Superintendent; etc. James R. Brown from SpringBoard Schools will facilitate the retreat.
