SANTA MONICA-MALIBU UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICTS ANNOUNCES SANTA MONICA HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
Superintendent Dianne Talarico is proud to announce that an offer for the position of principal at Santa Monica High School was made to and accepted by Dr. Hugo A. Pedroza. Dr. Pedroza comes to Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) after serving as principal of Manual Arts High School, a 4200-student school in LAUSD, with nine small learning communities on a year-round track.
A recommendation to appoint Dr. Pedroza will be brought forth to the Board of Education at the 8/31/06 meeting. The District and Dr. Pedroza will work collaboratively to negotiate a start date and develop a transition plan for his entry into the leadership position in the SMMUSD. “Dr. Pedroza will be an outstanding addition to the leadership team at Santa Monica High School,” Superintendent Talarico stated. “I believe he will be instrumental in continuing the work of addressing the global needs of the campus while supporting the success of the redesign. He will challenge our students and staff as we courageously strive to raise achievement for the students we serve.” Dr. Pedroza has over twenty years of educational experience and holds a Ph.D., M.Ed., and B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles.
