SMMUSD and S.E.I.U. Reach Tentative Agreement

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District is pleased to announce that it has reached a tentative agreement with the Service Employees
International Union (S.E.I.U.), Local 660. On Monday, January 9, 2005, the District was informed that S.E.I.U. membership overwhelmingly approved the contract developed as a result of negotiations and the Tentative Agreement reached on December 5, 2005. This agreement was reached after highly collaborative negotiations on both sides of the table. If ratified by the Board of Education

on February 2, 2006, the contract will go into effect as of January 1, 2006. The settlement provides the district’s classified
employees with a 3% salary increase and an opportunity to earn a partially matching Tax Sheltered Annuity (TSA) for part-time and full-time employees. The agreement also maintains fully paid HMO health insurance coverage for full-time employees and their families. The district is pleased that this collaborative effort resulted in a fair and appropriate tentative agreement that reflects respect and support for the district’s staff.

The agreement will be voted on by the Board of Education at its regularly scheduled meeting set for February 2, 2006, in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board Room, 1651 16th Street, Santa Monica, CA.
