SANTA
MONICA HIGH SCHOOL SYMPHONY—
FIRST PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL ORCHESTRA EVER INVITED TO PERFORM AT WALT DISNEY
CONCERT HALL.
Orchestra Director Joni Swensen leads award-winning
samohi
Symphony Orchestra in their Walt Disney Concert Hall Debut.
The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association has chosen the Santa Monica High Symphony Orchestra to open the Sounds About Town concert series for the 2005/06 Season. Sounds About Town nurtures tomorrow’s performers by enabling premier youth ensembles to perform at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Santa Monica- Malibu Unified School District’s persistently strong music program, the Symphony’s numerous awards and achievements, and the city of Santa Monica’s dedication to supporting the arts all contributed to making the SAMOHI Symphony Orchestra an obvious choice to perform at the world famous Frank Gehry-designed concert hall.
The SAMOHI Symphony’s performance will include a program
featuring the “Procession of the Nobles” from Rimsky-Korsakov’s Mlada,
the Adagietto from Mahler’s Symphony No. 5, Gershwin’s An American in Paris and culminates with
Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 2 in C Minor, Op. 17, “Little Russian.”
Everyone is invited to come show their support for these remarkable young people. It is sure to be an amazing performance. Tickets can be purchased online at www.laphil.com or by calling 323 850-2000.
