SMMUSD Begins the Measure “S” Senior Exemption from Parcel Tax Process

It is time for the 2006-07 Measure “S” Senior Exemption from Parcel Tax process to begin. This Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District 6-year direct assessment, approved by voters in June 2003, allows for senior citizens age 65 and over, who own and occupy their property as their primary residence, to apply for exemption from the $225 tax.

If you have previously applied, you will automatically be sent a Renewal Form in May, 2006, which will need to be completed, signed & returned, postmarked by July 31, 2006.

If you have never applied for the Exemption, please call Dawn Smithfield at (310) 450-8338, ext. 269 to request a first-time Application, or print out from our website at: www.smmusd.org (click Senior Exemption, then Application for Senior Exemption). Completed and signed original Applications must be returned, along with the required proofs of age & property ownership, by the July 31^st deadline.

All information received by July 31^st will be sent to the Los Angeles County Assessor’s Office and the Measure “S” tax assessment will be removed from your 2006-07 property tax bill.
