Santa Monica-Malibu School District’s Board of Education Appoints Principal of Cabrillo Elementary School

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District is proud to announce to the community that Barry Yates has been named principal of Juan Cabrillo Elementary School. In a meeting on Thursday, March 23, the Board of Education overwhelmingly approved Mr. Yates’ appointment. Mr. Yates has served as Interim Principal at Cabrillo Elementary since January 2006. Prior to this appointment, he held the position of Assistant Principal at Franklin Elementary School. “We are very pleased and fortunate to have Barry in this position. He is a seasoned administrator and we are confident that he will be very successful in his new post, “ stated Dr. Michael Matthews, Interim Superintendent of Schools. With more than seven years experience as an administrator, and 28 years as a teacher at Cabrillo Elementary, Mr. Yates is extremely familiar with the Cabrillo community and has demonstrated a long-term commitment to quality education for all students within the District. Mr. Yates’ extensive knowledge and experience, along with his excellent communication skills, make him an invaluable, exceptionally well-liked and highly effective leader.
