School Board Accepting Applications for

Financial Oversight Committee

Currently, there are two vacancies on the Financial Oversight Committee. Due to heavy work commitments, Dr. Michael Rich and Ms. Babette Heimbuch, who have served on the Committee for more than five years, found it necessary to resign from the Committee.

The District is seeking qualified candidates who will bring a depth of business and/or financial expertise to the committee. Application forms are available through the Superintendent’s Office or via the web site (see link below). The deadline is Monday, October 18, with appointments scheduled to be made at the October 21 Board of Education meeting being held at the Santa Monica City Council Chambers, 1685 Main Street, Santa Monica.

The Financial Oversight Committee was originally formed in answer to the community's desire for increased communication and understanding of the District's financial operations and a need to generate additional revenue for the District. Following is the criteria for selections:

 

•         Broad perspective;

•         Financial and/or management and/or legal expertise/experience;

•         Residing, employed or working within geographic boundaries of Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District;

•         Business process orientation

•         Communicates clearly information resulting from the committee’s work;

•         Not currently serving as an elected official.

All attempts will be made to have the composition of the committee reflective of the student population.

The Financial Oversight Committee meets approximately once a month in the District’s Testing Room, 1651 16^th Street, Second Floor, Santa Monica.
