Music Teacher Bonnie Lockrem Receives

California Music Educators Association

Outstanding Educator Award

Bonnie Lockrem has been chosen as the recipient of the California Music Educators Association (CMEA) Southern Section Outstanding Music Educator Award. Ms. Lockrem will accept the award on March 19 in Sacramento. Currently, she is the CMEA orchestra representative and has held that position for the last ten years.

Bonnie has taught instrumental music in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District since 1973 and is currently teaching at all three Malibu elementary schools. A staunch advocate for music education, she helped create the award winning music programs in our school district. She has served as a coordinator of the elementary instrumental music program for eight years and for three years has been coordinator of the District's widely acclaimed production, Stairway of the Stars.

Bonnie received her BA and MM from the University of Southern California. She is especially well known by the citizens of Malibu, where she lives and teaches with her husband Steven Ravaglioli, also a music educator in the district, and her daughter, Raquel. In addition, Ms. Lockrem is a member of the music faculty at Pepperdine, a violinist with the Topanga Symphony and founder/director of the Malibu Music Seminar.
