School Board Accepting Applications for

Financial Oversight Committee

Opportunity for Parent and Community Involvement in Public Education

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education is accepting applications to fill two vacancies on the District's Ad Hoc Financial Oversight Committee. The application deadline is Friday, August 8, 2003. Parents and community members are invited to apply.

The Financial Oversight Committee was originally formed in answer to the community's desire for increased communication and understanding of the District's financial operations and a need to generate additional revenue for the District. Following is the criteria for selections:

• Broad perspective;
• Financial and/or management and/or legal expertise/experience;
• Residing, employed or working within geographic boundaries of Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District;
• Business process orientation

• Communicates clearly information resulting from the committee's work;
• Not currently serving as an elected official.

All attempts will be made to have the composition of the committee reflective of the student population.

The Financial Oversight Committee meets regularly on the first and third Tuesday of each month, from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. in the District's Testing Room, 1651 16^th Street, Second Floor in Santa Monica.

Following is the appointment time line:

August 8, 2003 - Applications due in Superintendent's Office

August 21, 2003 - Appointment by Board of Education
