BOARD OF EDUCATION SELECTS NEW
COORDINATOR OF CHILD DEVELOPMENT SERVICES AND
ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT, BUSINESS & FISCAL SERVICES
At its meeting of November 1, 2001, the Board of Education of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) appointed Judy Abdo as Coordinator of Child Development Services and Kenneth Bailey as Assistant Superintendent of Business and Fiscal Services.
Ms. Abdo is very familiar with the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District as she was a Councilmember of the City of Santa Monica from 1988-1996. She served as Mayor of the City from 1990-1991 and again from 1992-1994.
John Deasy, District Superintendent states, "The District is extremely fortunate to have Judy Abdo join our team as her experience fills many needs in our Child Development Services program." Ms. Abdo holds a California Kindergarten-Primary Life Teaching Credential and received her Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of California, Santa Barbara. In addition to a background of teaching, most recently she held positions focusing on financial oversight, management, planning and fund raising. Her professional experience fund raising. Her professional experience also includes administrative oversight, program and policy development, and personnel training. We welcome Judy Abdo to the District.
Kenneth Bailey, newly appointed Assistant Superintendent of Business and Fiscal Services, comes to us from the San Carlos School District where he held the position of Associate Superintendent of Business Services. Kenneth Bailey oversaw the budget, personnel, maintenance and operations and purchasing. He supervised a $22 million construction bond and was chief negotiator for contract development with the bargaining units. Mr. Bailey brings exceptional skills in special education funding, resource alignment and site-based budgeting processes .
Ken Bailey earned both a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Business from San Francisco State University and also holds Standard Teaching and Administrative Services Credentials.
We welcome Kenneth Bailey to the District. While the State of California's public schools continue to experience financial difficulties, Ken Bailey is an outstanding administrator who is capable of taking a lead in the District's fiscal development and providing accountability and clear, effective communication throughout the process.
