Lissette Bravo Appointed New Samohi House Principal

Lissette BravoThe SMMUSD Board of Education approved the appointment of Lissette Bravo as a new Santa Monica High School house principal at its May 19, 2016 meeting. Bravo comes to SMMUSD from Poway High School where she has been assistant principal since 2012. She is also currently the Advancement Via Individual Determination district director to Poway High School and two middle schools since 2013.

TRAIN SAFETY POSTER CONTEST WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Congratulations to student and teacher winners!
The Santa Monica Police Department, Los Angeles County MTA and SMMUSD congratulate the winners of the “Safety Begins With Me” poster contest created to welcome the arrival of the Metro Expo Line on May 20, 2016. The contest was open to students in 4th through 8th grades who attend school in Santa Monica. The winners are:
FIRST PLACE: Quentin Corbel, 4th Grade, McKinley Elementary, teacher Mrs. Cervantes, 4th and 5th grade category
FIRST PLACE: Emilia Scott, 6th Grade, Lincoln Middle School, teacher Mrs. Moe, 6-8th grade category
Runner Up: Issac Feinberg, 4th Grade, Grant Elementary, teacher Mrs. Ware, 4th and 5th grade category

PURSUING EXCELLENCE THROUGH EQUITY

Dr. Pedro Noguera’s report on the current state of equity and opportunities to learn in SMMUSD was presented at a special board meeting on April 7, 2016. More than 220 parents, community members, district staff, administrators, and City officials attended and expressed appreciation to the board and district leadership for prioritizing this issue. Superintendent Lyon Accepts Position at Palm Springs USD

Superintendent Sandra Lyon, who has served as superintendent of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District since 2011, announced her plans to leave SMMUSD for the superintendent position of the Palm Springs Unified School District, effective July 1, 2016. Read More >

SMMUSD Music Education AwardThe Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District has been honored with the "Best Communities for Music Education" designation from the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. SMMUSD joins 475 districts across the country in receiving the prestigious award in 2016, and is one of only two districts in Los Angeles County to be recognized. Read More >

Measure R Parcel Tax General Information and Senior Exemption Application

In accordance with the Senior Exemption provision of the Measure R Parcel Tax, the 2016 - 17 forms are being mailed and are due to be returned/postmarked by June 30, 2016. To qualify for the Measure R Senior Exemption in 2016 - 17, senior citizens must be age 65 by June 30th of the year the application is made; own and occupy the property as their principal place of residence; and, annually apply for the exemption by the application deadline of each year.
