Message from Superintendent Dr. Ben Drati: Call to Action Walk-Out - April 20th

Dear parents, guardians, staff and community members,

We are aware that there is a national "call to action" walk-out planned for April 20th at 10am, for people to express their support of gun control and encouraging legislators to take action to help prevent more tragedies like the one in Parkland Florida in February.

Our schools participated in the March 14th national event, in honor of the victims of Parkland. Many of our schools conducted moments of silence and activities that centered on peace, love and kindness. Please know that our school board supports the public calls by our young people for our leaders to take productive action to further the cause of school safety. Read More >

Fifty-year revenue-sharing plan recommended
The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education approved a framework for Malibu unification, with a 50-year revenue sharing plan, at a special board meeting held on March 20, 2018 in the district's boardroom in Santa Monica. After a three-hour presentation and discussion, the school board voted 6-1 to approve a unification plan that will be pursued provided that the City of Malibu withdraws or temporarily halts consideration of the petition by Los Angeles County Committee on School District Organization while additional details of this concept are worked out.
