Vision Screening / Eye Glasses
Vision is a very important sensory skill that affects a child's learning and general development. Students in the SMMUSD have mandated vision screenings at the Kindergarten, 2nd, 5th, 8th, and 10th grade levels.  Pupils who are new to the district, enrolled in special education, referred by classroom teacher, parent or student self-referred are also screened by a school nurse. Color vision screening tests are administered to male pupils in 1st grade or as referred by the teacher or parent/guardian. Color vision should be completed by 5th grade. For pupils who have visual complaints or exhibit deviation from the norm on observation, referral for professional examination is recommended regardless of the results of the visual acuity test.
