  • Accentuate the Negative (3 weeks)
    4 investigations
    Do not do Problems 1.1, 2.4, 3.4, 4.3*** see note + Stanford YouCubed Inspiring Week tasks and messages
  • Stretching & Shrinking (3 weeks)
    4 investigations
    Do not do Problems 3.1, 3.2 (Incorporate triangle characteristics with similar figures in Problem 3.3)
  • Shapes & Designs— Angle Relationships Only (1week)
    need to do angle relationships and equations that go with 2D geometry (some incorporation of triangle characteristics with similar figures happens in unit 4 (Compare & Scale, problem 3.3) And triangle angle sum (180) happens in unit 5 (Moving Ahead, when solving equations).
  • Comparing & Scaling (3 weeks)
    3 investigations Do not do Problem 3.2
    (Incorporate triangle characteristics in 3.3)
  • Moving Straight Ahead (4 weeks)
    4 investigations
    (Incorporate triangle angle sum (180) when doing equation solving)
  • Samples & Populations (2 weeks)
    (critical area 7th grade stats standards—embed throughout the semester)
    Eliminate Investigation #3, Using Samples to
    Draw Conclusions (≈1 wk), if needing more time
    Be sure to teach basic measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode, range)
    DO the following: 1.3, 2.1, READ 2.2
  • Filling & Wrapping 3D Geo (2 weeks)
    4 investigations
    Do NOT do Problems 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1, 2.3 (touch upon it in context), 3.2, 3.3, and Inv 4
    Front load: Incorporate square roots and cube roots. Some ACE problems involve sq. and cube roots.

    8th GRADE
  • Pythagorean Theorem: Looking for Pythagoras
    Investigations 2, 3, and 4 (3 weeks)
  • Exponential Relationships: Growing, Growing, Growing (1 week)
    Do Investigation 1.2 and Use Illustrative Mathematics Open-Up Resource Units 7 and 8
  • Symbolic Representations and Formulas: Say It With Symbols (3 weeks) Skip 1.2, 2.3, 2.4, 3.3, 3.4, ALL OF INV. 4 AND 5
  • It’s in the System (1 week)
  • Symmetry and Transformations: Butterflies, Pinwheels, and Wallpaper (3 weeks)
