Mission of the ROP

The Los Angeles County Regional Occupational Program (LACOROP) maximizes regional resources to provide a variety of excellent vocational and technical job training for high school students, out-of-school youth, and adults.

Special services are also provided to disabled, limited English proficient, academically or economically disadvantaged students, and unskilled, undertrained, or displaced workers.

Who should enroll in ROP?

• Students 16 years or older
• Students in grades 11 or 12
• Students or adults needing job training
• Students or adults with special needs

Why should you enroll in an ROP class?

ROP courses add a new dimension to learning – “hands-on” in addition to “eyes-on.” Many students learn better that way. ROP Courses also reinforce basic academic skills and relate them to the “real world”, showing students their importance in everyday work situation. Some courses also offer workplace-learning opportunities for students, with unpaid internships.

ROP courses are fun because you learn by doing. In the words of former ROP students “It really gave me a direction for my future,” “It has given me a focus for my life,” “I learned what it means to be a professional,” I am more open to new opportunities,” “I feel more prepared for my future and more confident in my decisions” “It is an experience, not just a class.”

Our Program

LACOROP is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), and is governed by the Los Angeles County Board of Education.

In cooperation with twenty-three school districts, LACOROP determines and meets both the career objectives of students and the labor market needs in Los Angeles County.  District steering committee representatives provide direction for LACOROP programs operated within their schools.

LACOROP partners with business managers who participate on advisory committees to assure that occupational courses are based upon needs of the business or industry that will eventually hire the trained students, and to provide students with on-the-job training and assistance with job placement.

LACOROP also works with private post-secondary schools, journeyman and apprenticeship training centers, community college districts, labor organizations, and employement agencies to help deliver its mission.
