Career Technical Education (CTE)/Regional Occupational Program (ROP)

Dun & Bradstreet Summer Paid Internship 2016
In partnership with the Santa Monica-Malibu Education Foundation

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be a current Junior in Santa Monica-Malibu high schools.
  • Exhibit academic success with minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Internships offered in Finance, Legal, Marketing, Social Media/PR or Technology. Descriptions of these are on the ROP website under “D&B Info”.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities
  • Strong critical thinking skills and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Able to get to and from Malibu work location:  22761 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, CA  90265 (The Metro 534 travels PCH from Santa Monica to Trancas Canyon)
  • Available to work 32 hours a week, Monday through Thursday, for an entire 6 week period, June 20 - July 29, 2016.  Compensation will be $10.00 per hour.

To Apply:  Follow the red links on the left for a Google Doc “Intent to Apply” application and the Dun & Bradstreet fillable PDF application. Complete and submit the “Intent to Apply” immediately. Both applications must be completed.  Complete and save the PDF application before printing.  Both student and parent must sign the D&B application.

Students must submit an unofficial transcript, cover letter, resume and the completed and signed D&B application to the CTE/ROP office at Santa Monica High School or to the College Counselor at Malibu High School.  Application materials and transcript are due Wednesday April 27, 2016.  Incomplete application materials, hand written applications or unsigned/ initialed applications or applications submitted without a transcript will not be considered

Applications will be screened and candidates selected to move forward to the first round group interviews will be notified by notified by email on Friday April 29.  All correspondence and notification regarding the application process will be to the email address you provide. It is your responsibility to check your email and respond.

All applicants are invited to a Resume, Application, and Business Etiquette Workshop to prepare for the application and interview process: Saturday April 23, 9:00am – 2:00pm in the CTE/ROP Computer Lab, B110 at Santa Monica HS.  Students are encouraged to attend but the workshop is not mandatory.  Please notify the ROP office if you are planning on attending: or 310.395-3204x71474.  Bring a sack lunch.

First round group interviews will be held at Santa Monica High School on Tuesday May 3 and final selection interviews will be held at the Dun & Bradstreet Malibu location on Thursday May 5, 2016.

Finance Intern-Summer 2016

As a finance intern your responsibilities will include processing invoices and expense reports, researching vendor issues and organizing information.

Primary Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

•  Processing invoices and expense reports
•  Research discrepancies with vendors
•  Filing invoices, vendor payments, journal entries, etc.
•  Customer invoicing
•  Credit card chargebacks/retrieval requests
•  Monitoring CC Helpline
•  Processing customer refund checks
•  Ad-hoc projects on an as needed basis


•  Ideal applicants are highly motivated with an interest in Finance
•  Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal
•  Strong research and analytical skills
•  Attention to detail
•  Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills; a collaborative team-oriented approach; and a positive attitude are a must
•  Preferably possess a strong proficiency in Microsoft Office
•  Ability to multitask and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment

Legal Intern-Summer 2016

Seeking a sharp and driven intern to assist the legal team with day-to-day operations. This position embodies a great opportunity to learn the inner workings of an in-house legal department.  Critical thinking, attention to detail and strong communication skills are a must.  Candidates should also have an interest in pursuing a career in the legal field.

Primary Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

•  Participate in review and cataloging of legal documentation, and case discovery request

•  Conduct legal research and draft summaries on legal topics pertaining to the business

•  Assist the legal team with general day-to-day activities and other projects as may be assigned


•  Strong academic record with coursework demonstrating an interest in Law preferred
•  Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with internet research websites
•  Ability to quickly learn and grasp new concepts
•  Strong grades in government, English or related courses
•  Keen attention to detail
•  Enjoy working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment

Social Media Intern-Summer 2016

Looking for a highly motivated marketing and communications student who would like to get hands-on experience with using social media tools, such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and WordPress within a fast-past online marketing environment. Duties will vary day-to-day based on interest and need.

Primary Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

•  Assist the social media team with general day-to-day activities
•  Updating social media accounts
•  Researching/writing articles
•  Online outreach and promotion using various social media outlets
•  Campaign ideation

Marketing Intern-Summer 2016

The Marketing team is seeking one summer intern in the Creative services department.  The internship in the Creative Services department will involve a multi-faceted experience that will include project management, graphic design and video production.  Interning in the Creative Services department is a highly creative environment, so there is much to be learned from the team.

Primary Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

•  Assist in the coordination of projects between various departments and our creative team
•  Assist in design review, copywriting and proofing as well as ensuring design cohesiveness and brand standards for the creative requests
•  Interface with cross functional teams to learn about upcoming projects
•  Assist in storyboarding, writing scripts, video recording and editing videos
•  Support video editing needs using Final Cut Pro and/or Premiere
•  Assist in editing photos for color, lighting, and composition
•  Assist lead designer with the creation of design materials that may include sketching, storyboarding, mocking up concepts, revising ads, and editing the images
•  Support design needs using Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign

Technology Intern-Summer 2016

Assist Java Developers in creating and enhancing our ecommerce, product and data systems. Our technology team builds tools and products from scratch. You will be a part of a tight-knit team of experts in system engineering working on code that defines company infrastructure and collaborating with software and QA engineers on new and ongoing projects.

Primary Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

•  Assisting with day to day work, basic configuration and deployments

•  Assessment of new application ideas

•  Develop applications (coding, programming)

•  Basic coding in JAVA or PHP

•  Help with the development and implementation of various technology and software development tasks


•  Ideal applicants are highly motivated with an interest in technology, computer science, and/or engineering
•  Strong academic performance in math, science, engineering
•  Have a desire to learn about mission critical infrastructure and configuration management
•  Passion for developing and building world-class products on the web
•  Have a basic grasp of coding or programming
