70th Annual "Stairway of the Stars"Concerts Shine a Brilliant Light on the SMMUSD Music Program

For the 70th year, the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District will present Stairway of the Stars, a musical extravaganza highlighting the outstanding music education programs, and showcasing the talents of students from every school in the district. Nearly 1,000 elementary, middle, and high school students will "star" in three separate concerts at Santa Monica High School's historic Barnum Hall.

SMMUSD Accepting Applications for Measure M Bond Oversight Committee for Malibu Schools

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District is seeking applicants for a citizen's Bond Oversight Committee for Measure M, which passed overwhelmingly in November. Measure M raises $195 million for use in School Facilities Improvement District No. 2, which covers SMMUSD schools in Malibu. It's the first time Malibu schools have had dedicated funding. Enrollment is Open for SMMUSD Preschools and Bridges Transitional Kindergarten Programs for 2019-20

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District welcomes families to learn more about our preschool programs, including our part day, full day and Seaside preschool options.

In addition, our Bridges Transitional Kindergarten programs are now enrolling. The Child Development Services (CDS ) program oversees various programs at several locations that serve preschool-age students throughout and outside the district. The programs include fee-based part and full day classrooms, a new tuition-free district-based program for qualifying families, as well as subsidized programs offered via state preschool. SMMUSD Kindergarten Roundup 2019-20Enrolling Next Year’s Kindergarteners in SMMUSD

Elementary schools throughout the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District will be welcoming resident parents of incoming Kindergarteners to tour the schools and find out more about enrolling their children for the 2019-20 school year. The events are planned for January and February 2019 with dates for each school posted online.
Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten Round-Up, as the yearly event is called, is an opportunity for Santa Monica and Malibu parents of children entering TK or Kindergarten next year to meet the principal of their neighborhood school, visit classrooms, and begin the registration process for the 2019-20 school year. Measure M Update: Court Order and Decision for Motion to Remove PCBs at Malibu High School

The district was diligently working toward complying with the court order when community members expressed interest in using the school bond (should Measure M pass) dedicated explicitly towards building a new Malibu middle and high school, which would address the PCB issues of the campus by removing them instead of remediating as originally planned. Community members included the Facilities Advisory Committee, Malibu (FDAC-M) and Superintendent's advisory committee for the bond and ultimately the entire school board. Read More >

District Energy Saving Competition Underway
As part of its continuing sustainability efforts, the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District has launched the SMMUSD Energy Use Dashboard, an interactive tool that students, staff, parents and community members can use to monitor the district's energy use by school and district sites.
