Take the SMMUSD Survey on Accessibility

We are producing an ADA Transition Plan, and we need your input!
SMMUSD is seeking input from individuals with disabilities, patrons, caregivers, organizations, and agencies that support individuals with disabilities, as well as from interested individuals with experience in accessibility needs and best practices. This community involvement will help the district with its self-evaluation process, and better enable us to address and prioritize current and future accessibility needs.

SMMUSD Begins Districtwide LED Lighting Installation

As part of its efficiency and sustainability goals, the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District is replacing all interior and exterior lights with energy-saving LED lighting and new fixtures. The project is made possible by Proposition 39, the California program approved in 2012 that funds educational agencies' clean energy and energy use reduction efforts. It is projected that the new lighting will save nearly $1.3 million kilowatt hours (kWh) per year. That means the project will pay for itself in about 12.5 years. The installation will begin in October and is scheduled to be completed in 2019. Read More >

Local Funding Measures for 21st-Century Schools

Although some SMMUSD schools and classrooms have been modernized, many others have not, and there is more to do to support 21st-century learning and improve safety in all our neighborhood schools. In order to address these needs and provide maximum local control to Malibu and Santa Monica in determining the use of each community's funds, the District has created two School Facility Improvement Districts ("SFIDs") and placed two separate bond measures on the November 6, 2018 ballot for Santa Monica and Malibu voters to consider.
