Renowned Artist Jane Golden to Lead Events on Public Art and Murals in Santa Monica
Acclaimed artist/muralist Jane Golden and members of Mural Arts, will visit Santa Monica January 30th-February 1st to lead a public series of activities on public art and murals, and the future of the Muir Woods mural at the Obama Center, commissioned by Golden in 1978.

Enrolling Next Year's Kindergarteners in SMMUSD

Elementary schools throughout the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District will be welcoming resident parents of incoming Kindergarteners to tour the schools and find out more about enrolling their children for the 2020- 21 school year. The events are planned for January 30, 2020 with information for each school posted online.
Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten Round-Up, as the yearly event is called, is an opportunity for Santa Monica and Malibu parents of children entering TK or Kindergarten for the upcoming year to meet the principal of their neighborhood school, visit classrooms, and begin the registration process for the 2020-21 school year. Newsweek Announces Top 5,000 STEM Schools

Samohi and Malibu High School make top 20 for LA County for 2020
Newsweek announced its ranking of the top 5,000 STEM high schools for 2020, honoring excellence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Santa Monica High School is listed as 1,156 and Malibu High, 1,599. Samohi is ranked 16th for Los Angeles County public schools and Malibu High is ranked 19th. Read More >

Nine SMMUSD Schools Win Energy Star Certification From EPA

Nine schools in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District have been granted Energy Star certification for 2018 by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), underlining the district's efforts on energy efficiency and sustainability. The following schools have been certified: John Adams Middle School, Lincoln Middle School, Franklin Elementary School, Grant Elementary School, McKinley Elementary School, Muir Elementary School, Rogers Lea rning Community and Roosevelt Elementary School in Santa Monica, and Webster Elementary School in Malibu. SMMUSD Board of Education Gives Go-ahead for Malibu Middle and High School Campus Plan

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education gave district staff the go-ahead to execute a campus plan for the Malibu Middle and High School site that will build 21st-century learning facilities while optimizing use of the district's extraordinarily located Malibu property. The plan features separate areas and distinct identities for middle and high schools with a large U-shaped drop-off quad, which community members have lauded for the potential to reduce traffic along Morning View Drive.
