Lincoln Middle School New Track and FieldOpening of New Lincoln MS Track and Field Celebrated

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, along with Lincoln Middle School staff, parents and students, celebrated the grand opening of the new track and field with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. City of Santa Monica leaders, representatives of elected officials and field permit users, joined together to see and celebrate this new state-of-the-art facility. Ryan T BourkeRyan T. Bourke Appointed Will Rogers Learning Community Principal

The SMMUSD Board of Education approved the appointment of Ryan T. Bourke as the new Will Rogers Learning Community principal at its May 3, 2018 regular board meeting. Bourke joins SMMUSD from New York City where he has served as principal of two Manhattan elementary schools: Midtown West School and The Elias Howe School. Read More >

Isaac Burgess IVIsaac Burgess IV Appointed New Malibu Pathway Director

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education approved the appointment of Isaac Burgess IV as the new Malibu pathway director at its May 3, 2018 regular board meeting. This new position, approved by the school board at the same meeting, will report to Superintendent Dr. Ben Drati and will be solely focused on the needs and concerns regarding the district's four Malibu schools. He will be involved in short and long-term planning, operations and collaborating with all stakeholders in the community. Read More >

SMMUSD Bond Oversight Committee and Financial Oversight Committee Accepting Applications

The SMMUSD's Bond Oversight Committee (BOC) is seeking qualified candidates who meet that criterion, in accordance with Section 5.1 of the Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee Bylaws. There are two (2) upcoming vacancies with terms beginning July 1, 2018 in the category "parent active in PTA or Site Council" and "Citizen Active in a Business Organization" on the SMMUSD Prop 39 Bond Oversight Committee. BOC applications are available through the Superintendent's Office or via the website: www.smmusd.org/measureBB/CitizensOversight/application.pdf and can be mailed to the district office (1651 16th Street, Santa Monica, CA 90404) or scanned and emailed to boc@smmusd.org.

The SMMUSD's Financial Oversight Committee (FOC) is seeking qualified candidates who will bring a depth of business and/or financial expertise to the committee. There is one (1) upcoming vacancy with a term beginning July 1, 2018. FOC application forms are available through the website: http://www.smmusd.org/fiscal/financialDAC.html and can be mailed to the district office (1651 16th Street, Santa Monica, CA 90404) or scanned and emailed to foc@smmusd.org.

SMMUSD School Board Approves Framework for Malibu Unification

Fifty-year revenue-sharing plan recommended
The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education approved a framework for Malibu unification, with a 50-year revenue sharing plan, at a special board meeting held on March 20, 2018 in the district's boardroom in Santa Monica. After a three-hour presentation and discussion, the school board voted 6-1 to approve a unification plan that will be pursued provided that the City of Malibu withdraws or temporarily halts consideration of the petition by Los Angeles County Committee on School District Organization while additional details of this concept are worked out. Summer Adventure is an enrichment program for students entering Transitional Kindergarten through 9th grade. There are classes for everyone. Students enjoy classes like robotics, basketball, edible science, writing, computer and art classes. Summer Adventure keeps your child engaged in classes that provide loads of fun while preventing summer slide!
